Aquaponics is a food production system that combines fish rearing (aquaculture) with no-soil/water-only vegetable growing (hydroponics). Ready-to-install Commercial-Scale Aquaponics Systems come in modules that can be added to as one's business grows. Each module will likely include fish-growing tanks, vegetable-growing raft tanks, media beds, water pumps, gate and union ball valves, aeration system, plant propagation/nursery system, and all the necessary hardware for each of these components, plus starter supplies. Depending on their size, commercial aquaponic systems can reportedly produce annually 17,000 to 138,000 heads of lettuce and 9,000 to 33,000 bunches of greens or 260 to 770 square feet of other vegetables plus 880 to 11,600 pounds of fish.
